What do patterns, puzzles, and art have in common? Expand your horizons and see the connections. You’re using math and don’t even know it. Unlock the beauty of mathematics at WonderLab’s Pythagorean Theorem Day.

July 24th (7/24) is considered “Pythagorean Theorem Day” because the date itself represents a Pythagorean triple: when you square 7 (the first number) and 24 (the second number), the sum equals the square of 25 (the third number), which aligns with the Pythagorean theorem where the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides; essentially, a² + b² = c² or 7² + 24² = 25².

Don’t be intimidated by math – embrace the endless creativity!

Activities include:

  • Pythagorus and his connections to the mathematics of music
  • Puzzles – learn to visual mathematics without numbers
  • Mathematical connections to the year 2025
  • The new WonderLab math trail
  • Tessellation activities
  • Quilting and quilt designs
