Beginning in July, on days when the National Weather Service (NWS) HeatRisk is at Category 2 or higher, WonderLab is offering half-priced general admission from 9am until closing time Tuesday through Sunday.  

The “Stay Cool Bloomington Days at WonderLab” discount will go into effect when the National Weather Service HeatRisk Category is at Level 2/Orange/Moderate or above. The index will be monitored using the NWS HeatRisk website which provides a six-day outlook of predicted HeatRisk categories. 

“Stay Cool” days will be announced by 9:00 am on open days and will be based on temperature predictions from HeatRisk Source. The discount will remain in effect during museum open hours from 9am to closing Tuesday through Sunday.  This discount is not applicable to previously scheduled groups / field trips.

Stay Cool Bloomington is a comprehensive program that aims to promote community resilience to heat and ensure the well-being of Bloomington residents during hot weather. WonderLab is dedicated to providing access to the museum for all families regardless of their financial standing. With “Stay Cool Bloomington Days” WonderLab hopes to provide museum access to anyone in the community who is interested in learning science while cooling off. 

“With school out of session, WonderLab is one of the few places in town that continues to promote summer STEM learning,” said WonderLab Executive Director, Karen Jepson-Innes. “As an active member of the local science community, WonderLab supplements childrens’ science exposure during summer months. Through this program we acknowledge that climate change is real and that there are ways our community can adjust to become more resilient.”
