Recycled Wonders

This fun and creative camp is all about turning everyday items into amazing new creations. Campers will explore the world of recycling, upcycling, and reusing materials to create arts, crafts, and even small inventions! From making a beeswax lunch cloth to building bird feeders all with recycled materials, every project is an opportunity to reduce waste and reuse treasures in a fun and hands-on way.

New this year: local bird ambassadors will visit! Campers will catch wild birds in mist nets, record data, and release them. Activities will cover bird ecology, anatomy, migration, and flight. Camp runs rain or shine—bring gear!

Campers will have the opportunity to cook and eat with ingredients straight from the farm. Not all farms are about food, so campers will be crafting with products from the farm like wool, learning how it goes from animal fur to a handcrafting product.

These skills will then be used to learn about Indiana native species and their importance to the Temperate Hardwood Forests of Monroe County.

Studying animal tracks and plant life, campers will learn about edible, medicinal, and tool-using plants, while uncovering nature’s stories.

Campers will experiment with colorful chemical reactions and craft with interesting materials. Campers will experience hair raising science, weaving, graphing and simple machines as well as play games that build estimation, probability, and simple arithmetic skills.

The garden plot they create will be theirs to continue working on throughout the summer.
