Step 1: Determine your event size

Small Science Show

$300
  • 50 or fewer participants
  • Price of each additional show: $175
  • Time: 30 – 40 minutes

Large Science Show

$450
  • 51 – 150 participants
  • Price of each additional show: $275
  • Time: 30 – 40 minutes

*Book multiple shows for the same day and save! Additional shows must be less than 2 hours apart and have at least 30 minutes between to reset between shows.

Maximum # of shows: 3 in one day (with minimum of 30 minutes to reset between shows)

Requirements:  All shows require two- 6’ or 8’ tables.  Other requirements may apply depending on show type.

Travel Fee for Outreach Events:
For locations within a 10-mile radius from the WonderLab Museum Location: No Travel Fee.

For locations outside a 10-mile radius from the WonderLab Museum Location: No Travel Fee for the 10-mile radius between WonderLab and outreach site. Beyond that, $1 per mile Round-Trip between WonderLab and outreach site.

Step 2: Choose Your Topic

All shows are appropriate for mixed age audiences, or the content can be adapted to engage a specific age group Kindergarten through adult.

Rocket Lab

Blast off into rocket science with WonderLab. Together we’ll explore how scientists get objects into space, how they keep objects in space, and how rockets help us learn about the universe. Demonstrations include bursting balloons, a fiery rocket engine, and more. This exciting show is sure to set the stage for out of this world learning and fun!

Hair-Raising Science

What does lightning have to do with your socks? Static electricity!  Learn how electricity is generated and how it impacts our lives from making your sock stick to your sweater to creating a bolt of lightning. Together we’ll perform electrifying experiments with our Van de Graaff generator.  Demonstrations include mini bolts of lightning, floating packing peanuts, and will even give someone’s hair an “Extreme Van de Graaff Makeover”!  This demo is sure to spark interest in science!

Marvelous Matter

Matter is anything that takes up space. Explore the three basic states of matter – solids, liquids, and gases – with fun and interactive demonstrations. Explore the arrangement of tiny particles called atoms, substances changing from one state of matter to another, which substance can take all three forms, and a frozen gas. Learn about viscosity and choose which substance to cheer on as liquids race down the viscosity racetrack.

Design, Build, Test!

What does it take to be an engineer? Follow the steps of the engineering design process as we build our own Rube Goldberg Machine. What is our problem? How can we solve it in a silly way? Learn about physics, systems, structure-behavior function, emergent properties and much more.

Bright Science

Experience an illuminating exploration of a form of energy we can see: LIGHT! We’ll discover what light is made of and the science behind the surprising ways it’s generated. This engaging demonstration features brightly colored flames, cool glowing liquids, bizarre fluorescent materials and other surprises.

NOTE:  This demonstration requires a presentation area where the lights can be dimmed.

Epic Temperatures

Explore the extremely cool science of temperature and energy. Using a “mystery substance” (liquid nitrogen), have your group question, experiment, and test if they are dealing with a cold or hot substance. We will learn how solids, liquids and gasses change when placed in extreme temperatures (extreme cold). Discover what happens when balloons, bananas, and other objects interact with our “mystery substance.” This show features shattering racquetballs, a cool cloud geyser, and much more.

Step 3: Check out our tips for a successful event

Logistics and Staffing:

  • Be prepared to provide space, one table per activity, chairs and, if needed, electrical outlets and a convenient water supply.
  • One volunteer or staff member is necessary to run each activity station.
  • If you are located in Monroe County, you are responsible for providing half of the volunteers needed to staff the activity stations.
  • If you are outside Monroe County, you are responsible for providing all of the volunteers needed to staff the activity stations.
  • A WonderLab staff member will train, oversee, and support all volunteers during the event.
  • WonderLab will provide all the activity supplies, set up, and clean up. A WonderLab staff member will train, oversee, and support all volunteers during the event.

Considerations and Recommendations:

  • Activity Stations may run up to a maximum of 3 hours (a typical STEM Night ~2 hours).
  • We strongly recommend max 30 participants/station/hour.
  • Max of 10 activity stations per event.

Payment

Outreach events must be scheduled and paid at least two weeks in advance. Events that require payment adjustments based on attendance will be invoiced or reimbursed for adjustments after the event. Non-payment will result in cancellation of the event.

Cancellation Policy

Events cancelled at least one month (30 days) in advance will receive a full refund. Events cancelled less than one month in advance are subject to a 50% cancellation fee. Events cancelled less than two weeks in advance will receive refund of their mileage/travel fees only. No cancellation fees will be charged if the event is rescheduled. No cancellation fees will be charged if an event is cancelled due to weather conditions.

Step 4: Schedule your event

Science shows can be booked for a variety of events, including birthday parties, corporate events, school assemblies, STEM nights, and more.

Please be prepared to provide: an accessible entrance to the presentation area, two 6-8 foot tables, and, if needed, electrical outlets and a convenient water supply. A fire extinguisher is required for shows that feature flame.
