Spring Break WonderCamp Details

Session Title: Rhythms of Nature

Dates: Monday, March 17 – Friday, March 21, 2025

Session Location: Loesch Farm, 2687 Loesch Rd, Bloomington,IN

Grades: K-8

Rhythms of Nature is a hands-on, immersive Spring Break camp for kids in Bloomington, IN. Campers will enjoy a weeklong experience of wild plant and animal communities in South Central Indiana. Campers will build relationships with plants learning which ones are edible, medicinal values, utilitarian (tool use), and even musical instrument potential. Campers will also build relationships with the animals at Loesch Farm by studying their tracks and learning to read the landscape and discover their stories. Daily adventures will allow campers to explore different ecosystems on the property including a deciduous forest of elder trees and ground hog burrows. In the creek bend campers will find frogs, salamanders, fish and even inland crabs (crayfish). In the fields campers will discover nesting birds, butterflies, the musical bamboo jungle and more! Campers will also have the chance to learn about fire and the importance of fire throughout history. Earth stewardship will be emphasized as campers harvest plants and learn about the animals that share our home planet.

Times:

  • Campers Arrive as early as: 8:30 a.m.
  • Session Time:  9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Campers Leave by: 4:30 p.m.

Transportation: There are two options for getting your children to and from Spring Break WonderCamp.

Registration opens for Members: Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 9 a.m.

Registration opens for General Public: Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 9 a.m.

Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funds are available. Qualifying families, both member and non-member, can receive funding* for one session per child. All camp registrations will be charged a $25 processing fee.

Scholarship applications will be accepted beginning January 8, 2025 through January 17, 2025.

*Please note: The $25 administration fee is not refundable to Scholarship recipients.

Session Location: Loesch Farm

Loesch Farm is 68 acres of woodland, organic pasture and gardens located in Bloomington, Indiana owned by Jeff Mease.

Loesch Farm Schedule

Parents are welcome to drop off and pick up their children directly from Loesch Farm.

  • 8:30am: Parents may begin dropping off children at the farm.
  • 9am – 4pm: Camp Session  
  • 4 – 4:30pm: Parents may pick up their children at the farm
  • 4:30pm: All children must be picked up. 

NOTE: We are delighted to offer a free transportation option from WonderLab to Loesch Farm. Select the transportation option during registration.

Rural Transit Transportation Option

Free transportation via Bloomington Rural Transit is available from WonderLab to the camp session location at Loesch Farm. 

Take advantage of free transportation for your child during our special spring break WonderCamp. During registration select: “Yes! I would like my child to ride the Rural Transit Bus from WonderLab to Loesch Farm.”

Parents can drop off their children daily as early at 8:30am. The bus will leave promptly at 8:45am. Parents must pick up their children daily by 4:30pm. Curbside drop-off and pick-up. There is no need to park. Staff will be at the drop-off / pick-up lines. Signs will indicate traffic flow. Note: It is not mandatory that campers ride the bus. The Rural Transit bus is optional.

In order to provide a safe, fun, experience for all, children must meet the following requirements to register for WonderCamp:

  • Campers must be 5-years-old on or before August 1, 2025.
  • Campers must be able to stay with the group independently for 90% of the day. This can include a campers with aides provided by the family.

Spring Break WonderCamp:

Summer WonderCamp:

  • No camp the week of July 4th (June 30-July 4th).
  • No camps at UES the week of June 16-20.

Each camper needs to bring a lunch and a water bottle. Please note: there is no microwave or fridge at camp.

WonderCamp provides a healthy snack each morning and afternoon. We will serve watermelon, apples, oranges, carrots and cucumbers. Sometimes popcorn, animal crackers or pretzels are also served.  (depending on allergies).

Campers may bring a snack from home if they choose. We do ask that it be a healthy snack to power up the campers. Please be sure your campers first and last name are on all items.

WonderCamp strives to maintain a 5:1 ratio in all camps at all times. In order to do this we need to ensure the campers are with the group 90% of the day. We understand campers may need a break from an activity or the group, however we are not able to provide 1:1 support apart from the group for extended periods of time during the day.

If your camper comes to camp with any medications you will be asked to fill out a Medical Action Plan. All medications will be kept at the first aid station on site and a written step by step action plan will stay with the medication.

The best way to communicate with camp staff is in person at drop-off or pick-up.

If you need to pick-up early or come in late please let staff know at morning drop-off. Please text the camp director at your arrival and we will bring your camper to the pick up location. Please allow a few minutes for staff to gather your camper.

You can always email or call the camp director with any questions or concerns that need discussion.

Campers will be released to authorized persons only-if their name is on the camper  information card. If you need to add a name to your card in case of an emergency please call or text the camp director.  Camp staff have the right to ask for a valid driver’s license or identification card to confirm a person’s identity before releasing a camper. We ask that ALL campers be signed out at pick up.

Why does Summer WonderCamp change location on Fridays?2025-06-17T20:45:27-04:00

Summer WonderCamp changes locations on Friday to accommodate the 5 day week. MCCSC is not open on Fridays during the summer to conserve energy. All campers attending camps University Elementary School will be at the School of Education on Fridays.

Note to all parents dropping off children at IU School of Education on Fridays:  Due to construction on Rose Avenue GPS will reroute you to the back side of the building. Do not follow GPS. Please approach the IU School of Education from Rose Ave by turning north off 3rd  onto Rose Ave. or turning south off of 7th street onto Rose Ave. The appropriate drop off location is the cul-de-sac off of Rose Ave.
