Tuesdays in March
Science Sprouts is a weekly science enrichment program designed especially for infants, toddlers and their families. At an early age, infants and toddlers have the ability to explore and observe the world around them. Infants and toddlers are natural scientists, and Science Sprouts is a time for them to explore, experiment, and build skills ranging from physical development to social emotional development. Every week we will practice the skills of exploring, hypothesizing, testing, and sharing results. Science Sprouts offers an opportunity for hands-on science exploration in a supportive, community-oriented environment.
Science Sprouts activities are designed and facilitated by early childhood specialists and include hands-on exploration, live music, body movement, and a commitment to accurate science. Together we will explore a broad range of science topics, with a different focus each March. During our March of anatomy, we may work with life-sized bone castings to piece together a whole human skeleton! If we are exploring physics, we may use ramps, balls, and cars to test Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion. Science Sprouts is engaging for infants, toddlers, and caregivers alike.
A robust body of research shows that the first three years are the most sensitive period for brain development. There are many early childhood education programs, but few of them take into account the unique developmental needs of infants and toddlers; sometimes called “sensory-motor learners.” By providing a program designed SPECIFICALLY for infants toddlers, we recognize that this is an essential time of development that requires unique tools and teaching.
This March in Science Sprouts, we will be exploring the fascinating world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This program is carefully crafted to spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and lay the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Activities will encourage children to ask questions, explore, and discover the world around them through fun, interactive, age appropriate activities. Science Sprouts is recommended for children aged 0-3, caregivers, and siblings.
Hands-on activities may include:
- Engineer a city: work as a group to design a small town!
- Designing, testing, and building a device that cleans trash in space.
- Racing through mazes made out of pool noodles and straws.
